Alarming Footage Captures Instant Officers Get Knifed in Unexpected Assault
One senior officer that leaped to the aid of a partner that got attacked by a blade-wielder received the King's Commendation for Courage.
Sergeant Tim Ansell grappled with 27-year-old Jacob Brown after he pressed a blade to the throat of his fellow officer Sergeant Marc Foster.
Brown began the violence as the policemen and their partner, Police Constable Marcus Wolstencroft, were conversing to a driver following a road collision in the area in July 2023.
Brown attacked with blade the two Sgt Ansell and Sergeant Foster prior to Police Constable Wolstencroft stopped him with a electric weapon.
"Officer knifed," PC Wolstencroft stated over his radio.
Officer-mounted and dashcam video made public by the police department depicted Brown, who was dressed in black with a head covered, approach to Sergeant Foster from the rear with a blade extended.
He ran into the policeman who stumbled and dropped to the pavement, after which Sgt Ansell jumped in and tried to wrestle him to the pavement even though being repeatedly struck with the knife.
PC Wolstencroft pulled his stun gun and sought a safe opportunity, concluding the fight to an finish.
Sgt Ansell was heard stating: "Can I get something on my throat here, I'm bleeding in the neck."
Sergeant Ansell received two open wounds to his neck and more cuts to his arms and body, while Sergeant Foster received slash wounds.
Authorities stated Sergeant Foster used his bare hands to control his fellow officer's bleeding prior to emergency responders came.
This most recent award comes after the law enforcement team received departmental Valor Recognitions in October 2023 and the police federation award from the regional officer association in early 2024.
They further earned a Regional Courage Honor in July 2024.
"The efforts of each policeman in the end rescued one another and resulted in no civilians endured any injuries."
Brown was given to an indefinite hospital order in April 2024, as stated by the department.
